A few words from Peter

As you may have heard, at the end of October last year, the military leadership in Sudan lead a coup and overthrew the civilian government after a period of instability following the deposition of the autocrat Omar al-Bashir two years ago. The country has effectively been in revolution since December 2018, however, this latest act saw a wave of violence from the state as thousands poured into the street.

Since October, some 82 revolutionaries have been murdered, with well over a thousand injured with tear gas, stun grenades, and live rounds. This number has been steadily climbing since as the Junta’s violent response has increased, even seeing the use of belt-fed machine guns.

The situation has only gotten worse as the struggle has intensified. There is a vital need for material solidarity. International solidarity and mutual aid are not just the cornerstones of Anarchism but speak to everyone who believes that injustice to one, is an injustice to all regardless of how you define your political tendency. Even if you can only provide a small contribution, it will go miles towards helping them establish lines of communication and keep themselves safe during these difficult times.

This fundraiser is organised by The Anarchist Federation and is facilitated by Venceremos Ltd, donated funds will be gathered on Friday the 4th and sent to local comrades from the Sudanese Anarchists Gathering. SAG will be using these funds to buy much-needed supplies and materials to keep protestors safe.

Edit. After taking some advice, we’ve increased the goal to £1000. Please understand that this still a low benchmark, fitting the short turn around.
